When your child struggles, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Frequently asked questions
If you’re new to psychology, whether you’re seeking support for your child or wanting clarity about how best to help them, it’s completely normal (and very human!) to feel unsure about what to expect.
Below are some common questions you might find helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

I work with children, adolescents, and parents, with a particular passion for those living in regional and rural Western Australia.
I support young people with anxiety, big feelings, tricky behaviours, and neurodiversity including ADHD and autism. I also work with parents who are doing their very best and still wondering, “Am I missing something?”

At Point Hillier Psychology, I offer:
Psychological therapy for children, adolescents, and parents
ADHD and autism diagnostic assessments
Parent support and coaching
AHPRA Board-approved supervision for provisional 5 + 1 psychologists
Everything is tailored to your child/family — no one-size-fits-all approaches here!

Warm, practical, and very human! My work is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment-informed care, developmental psychology, and neuro-affirming practice. That means I focus on understanding behaviour, building emotional skills, and helping kids and parents feel more confident — not trying to “fix” anyone.

If you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a GP referral. Otherwise, you’re welcome to book without one. If paperwork makes your eyes glaze over, you’re not alone! Just reach out - we can help you figure out what’s needed.
-
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available where appropriate and work well for many rural families and teens. Some services, such as assessments, may need face-to-face appointments.
We’ll talk this through before booking so there are no surprises.

I’m based in Denmark, Western Australia. I see local families in person and support regional families via Telehealth when it’s a good fit.

You don’t need a crisis or a checklist. Families often reach out because of anxiety, emotional overwhelm, school stress, friendship difficulties, or changes in behaviour.
Sometimes it’s simply a gut feeling that things are harder than they need to be. Trusting that instinct is a very reasonable place to start.
-
Yes. I offer comprehensive ADHD and autism assessments for children and adolescents. These assessments are strengths-based, respectful, and focused on understanding how your child experiences the world - not putting them in a box.
-
Usually, yes, and in ways that feel supportive rather than overwhelming. Depending on your child’s age and needs, this might include parent-only sessions, joint sessions, or regular check-ins. You won’t be expected to suddenly become a therapist yourself!
-
Standard therapy sessions run for 50 minutes. Assessment and feedback sessions can be longer, depending on what’s needed. We’ll always be upfront about time and costs.
-
Firstly, I’ll let you know now that you’re not alone! Therapy works best when kids feel safe and respected, not pushed. I take a gentle, relationship-first approach and go at your child’s pace.
Sometimes starting with parent sessions can be a helpful first step.
-
Life happens. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a fee. This helps keep the practice running smoothly and allows other families and children access to support.
-
You can book by emailing hello@pointhillierpsychology.au or calling (08) 6830 1931 to speak with Point Hillier Psychology’s friendly admin, Tiana. If you’re not sure what kind of appointment you need, that’s okay – Tiana or I will help you work it out.
-
If you’re reading this thinking, “Maybe… but I don’t know,” you’re not alone! You’re very welcome to get in touch for a brief, no-pressure conversation to see whether Point Hillier Psychology might be a good fit for your family. Sometimes talking it through is the most helpful first step.
